Welcome to your sophomore year, Class of 2011!

Humanities

americanprogress1.jpgWhat is truth? Who should rule? These questions born of the Enlightenment guide our study of global history from 1750 - 1900. Special emphasis is also placed on the "missing voices" of history.

Through careful examinations of literature, art, and primary source documents, we will learn about the past in order to understand the world we live in today.

This painting by John Gast is entitled "American Progress" and served as a metaphor for Manifest Destiny in the late 1800s. Today it sheds light on the attitudes of the time period.

Key course documents will be posted throughout the quint, as well as links to research sites and an online bulletin board. Students will receive Unit Calendars complete with daily homework assignments, long-term projects and exam dates.
