Material

  1. Gente Joven 1 textbook with audio CD (last year’s textbook
  2. One compostion book
  3. Planner

GOALS:

You will continue to learn basic vocabulary and grammar to help you become more proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish.

Please participate actively in all classroom activities—pair and small group tasks, as well as whole class activities. Research on second language acquisition has shown that the best way to learn a language is through interaction and collaborative work. In this course, instead of “learning the language to use it” you will be “using the language to learn it”. This means that most classroom time will be devoted to communicative activities to be completed in pairs or small groups. Your active participation in these activities is crucial. Active participation means not only speaking, but also listening to other students’ contributions respecting their different opinions.

This year, you will learn how to describe people, will learn more new verbs, how to shop and order at restaurants, describe favorite sports and TV habits.  We’ll also talk about different countries of the Spanish-speaking world.

GRADING

Students receive a letter grade for each quint.  The distribution I will use to determine a student’s grade will be based on:

  1. Class participation
  2. Homework
  3. Projects
  4. Tests

To obtain your final grade, I will divide the sum of all your grades by the total number of possible points.

Classroom Policies

* Use courtesy and common sense. Be courteous to your classmates, teacher and any guests/visitors.  Listen quietly while others are talking, raise your hand if you have a question or have something to say.

*Speak Spanish as much as you can and don't be afraid of making mistakes.  It is part of the learning process.

*Ask questions when something is not clear.

*Use the bathroom before or after class.
